The undergraduate program in mechanical engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET,
MISSION STATEMENTS
Boğaziçi University has inherited a strong tradition of excellent teaching and learning from Robert College. As it became Boğaziçi University in 1971, the transition to becoming a research university has started. The Senate has formalized the desire to emphasize research in 1993. The mission of Boğaziçi University is “Educating individuals who endorse our institutional values, who respect ethical standards, who are environmentally conscious, who can think critically and who, with their academic and cultural formation and self confidence, are versatile, creative and capable of being successfully employed in academic institutions and in public or private sectors", "Generating universal knowledge and contributing to critical thinking, science and technology while serving humanity" and "Expanding the scientific horizons in Turkey and contributing to the insitutionalization of science, art and culture in our society".
The mission of the Boğaziçi University School of Engineering is “to educate individuals for careers of leadership and innovation in industry, government and educational institutions; to expand the engineering knowledge base through original research; to contribute through professional services towards more prosperous and sustainable society.”
The mission of the Department for undergraduate education is “to graduate contemporary mechanical engineers who will be able to work in different industries where they can add value, have the qualities to progress to top level management” and is very much in line with the general perceptions of the university community including the alumni.
PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Boğaziçi University aims at graduating bachelors of science students who, in the years following their graduation, show dedication to:
1. applying the fundamental notions and principles of mechanical engineering to problems encountered in a practical work environment.
2. developing the integrated understanding of engineering material that is required to ask and answer questions of general engineering and scientific interest.
3. learning independently by participating in ongoing professional development activities, and updating their knowledge and abilities to maintain relevance in a changing work environment.
4. taking the initiative to pursue leadership positions, and using these as opportunities to develop innovative and creative plans of action.
5. communicating effectively in a collaborative group environment by spoken, written and graphical means, and respectfully addressing and resolving any differences of opinion that may arise.
6. serving as inspiring practitioners of the engineering profession, and employing mechanical engineering knowledge in pursuit of environmentally responsible solutions that enhance society as a whole.
STUDENT OUTCOMES
The graduates of the mechanical engineering undergraduate program are expected to have:
1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics,
2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors,
3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences,
4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts,
5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives,
6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions,
7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
